Next Training: Phoenix, Arizona

The first Merb Training session takes place in the lovely Phoenix, Arizona. We've partnered with our friends over at Integrum Technologies and based on the volume of inquiries, expect the class to fill up quickly!

Who are we?

Yehuda Katz and Matt Aimonetti, both Merb core team members, have between them more than 20 years of web development experience.

Yehuda Katz Yehuda is well known for his involvement in projects like jQuery and DataMapper. He is currently employed by Engine Yard, working full time on Merb and Rails; he is a Core Team member on both projects, which recently announced plans for a merger. Yehuda is often invited to present at conferences, including RubyConf, RailsConf, MerbCamp, and jQuery Camp. He is an experienced instructor, with previous classroom experience.
Matt Aimonetti Matt runs a consulting company in San Diego, CA offering consulting, training and development. In addition to his day job, Matt works on the Merb Open Source Book, and is a member of the new Rails Evangelism Team. Before Merb, Matt was an active Rails contributor. He wrote many Ruby gems and Rails plugins and is currently running two popular blogs.

What do we cover?

Yehuda and Matt decided to share their knowledge of Merb with people who are interested in building flexible and powerful web applications using the Merb web framework.

The Merb training course is an interactive, hands-on workshop covering an in-depth presentation of the Merb framework, its internals, the various available components and finally, the Merb way to develop and test a powerful and flexible web application.

In three days, you'll learn how to pick and choose the right components for you, based on your project requirements. You will learn the latest techniques and best practices to build full-featured and flexible applications in no time. Finally, you will learn how to write code you can use and reuse in order to bring more business value to your products and more efficiency to your daily work.

See the curriculum details for more information.

Who is it for?

The class is primarily targeting experienced web developers who want to build efficient and flexible web applications.

When designing our curriculum, we thought of you as someone:

  • "fluent" in an Object-oriented language (such as Ruby, Java, C#, Python, PHP...)
  • who has already built at least a database-backed web application (using MySQL, Postgres, Oracle...)
  • who has already used an MVC web framework, like Rails, Django, Struts, CakePHP, Code Igniter, Symfony, etc. -- or at least is familiar with the MVC paradigm
  • who wants to learn how to write proper, tested and efficient code
  • who might want to learn how to scale an existing application
  • who might want to migrate a legacy application to Merb
  • who thinks outside the box
